Introduction
Humberto J. Quintanar is an Associate at Wechsler Becker LLP. His practice focuses on a broad range of family law matters, including dissolutions, child custody and support, committed intimate relationships, parentage actions, domestic violence proceedings, modifications, and premarital and postnuptial agreements. A former prosecutor and civil trial attorney with experience across multiple litigation practice areas, Humberto brings a disciplined, client-centered approach and strong courtroom presence to every case he handles.
Before joining Wechsler Becker, Humberto honed his family law practice at firms including Skellenger Bender, PS, Reed Longyear Malnati Corwin & Burnett and Goldberg Jones, where he represented high-net-worth individuals and Spanish-speaking clients in complex dissolutions, modifications, dependency cases, and committed intimate relationship disputes. He also served as an Assistant City Attorney with the Seattle City Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted criminal matters and developed the trial-tested advocacy skills he brings to his family law practice today. Humberto has additional experience in construction litigation, commercial disputes, and insurance defense while working for several different firms over his career.
Whether negotiating complex parenting plans, litigating contested financial issues, or guiding clients through high-conflict custody disputes, Humberto prioritizes clarity, strategy, and results. He understands that family law cases carry consequences extending well beyond the courtroom, and he approaches each matter with that reality in mind. He also speaks Spanish and regularly represents Spanish-speaking clients throughout their cases.
Humberto received his Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law, where he was a recipient of the Philip L. Burton Memorial Scholarship from the Loren Miller Bar Association. He served on the Moot Court Board and was an active member of the Black Law Students Association. As a mock trial competitor, he was a two-time regional champion of the Western Regional BLSA Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition and a finalist at the National BLSA Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from St. John’s University in Queens, New York.
Community & Professional Involvement
Humberto has a deep commitment to social justice, civil rights, and the support and empowerment of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. He serves on the Executive Board of the Loren Miller Bar Association (LMBA), Washington’s oldest and most established affiliate bar association dedicated to advancing Black attorneys and legal professionals. His three years of board service—including his current role as Vice President of Events—furthers his pursuit of expanding access to justice, professional development, and civic engagement within communities of color.
Outside of his legal practice, Humberto is deeply invested in youth athletics and community organizations. He has coached youth baseball through Seattle Central Little League for seven years and served on the Seattle Central Little League Board of Directors for three years. He also serves on the Board of the Music Center of the Northwest. Coaching has reinforced the same values he brings to his law practice: preparation, accountability, teamwork, and a long view toward development.
Personal
When he’s not practicing law or coaching, Humberto spends the majority of his time with his fiancée and two sons. You can find him on the golf course, in the gym, watching horror films, playing his vinyl records, or working on his sons’ golf and baseball development.
